The Villa of the Masterpieces – The Magnani Rocca Foundation
In the beautiful setting of a centuries-old English park, populated by animals and dozens of species of plants and shrubs, we find the Villa of the Masterpieces, seat of the Magnani Rocca Foundation.
The Villa houses the prestigious collection that Luigi Magnani, writer and music critic (1906-1984), put together during his lifetime.
From the Middle Ages to the twentieth century avant-garde, the names that are encountered on visiting the rooms of the Villa are: Gentile da Fabriano, Filippo Lippi, Dürer, Titian, Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, Canova, Bartolini, Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, De Chirico, De Pisis, Morandi, Manzù, Burri, Hartung.
In order to preserve the sensation of a real house, the arrangement of furniture pieces was kept unaltered: here, in fact, we can find precious furniture and items of the Empire period, among which the large cup in malachite by Thomire, a gift of Czar Alexander I to Napoleon, and furniture pieces by Jacob, which exalt the great masterpieces on display.
The elegant rooms of the Villa of the Masterpieces of the Magnani Rocca Foundation host temporary exhibitions each year. Among the past exhibitions: Andy Warhol, Graham Sutherland, Toulouse-Lautrec, Antonio Ligabue, Guttuso, Jean Cocteau, Alberto Burri, Giovanni Fattori, Rembrandt.
